The Heart of the Bride

Next Monday I begin six weeks vacation, taking a much needed rest. I will not be posting daily during this time, I will from time to time but not on a regular basis until the second week of August. On my time away I will be spending time with my hubby on trips here and there to the countryside absorbing the beauty of summer. I will also be spending extra time with Jesus – I’m so looking forward to it!

Therefore, today and tomorrow I want to share with you something from my journal. The Lord often impresses ‘pictures’ on my mind that help me to understand certain truths from His word. My prayer is that as you read my thoughts as I wrote them at the time, you also will be drawn ever closer to the heart of your Bridegroom, Jesus Christ the beloved One.

From my journal September 26, 2002:

How can one describe intimacy? What is intimacy with Jesus our Bridegroom? Jesus is the altogether lovely One, our beloved and our friend. Oh that He alone would be my one desire! Like David said “One day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere”. Or as Job said “I have heard of you but now my eyes have seen you”. He is the fairest of ten thousand. His face is brighter than the sun. His love is higher than the mountains, deeper than the sea, stronger than the winds and gentler than a dove. He fills my life with goodness and fills my heart with wonder and awe. There is no end to Him! There is new beauty and glory to discover every day, forever and ever.

Praise and worship open the doors of His courts. His love draws us into His chamber, into the Holy of Holies. As I walk toward Him through the majestic palace, the objects around me in every direction are covered with gold and precious gems, I’m walking on rich carpets of red, but my heart longs only for Him. This is intimacy. To behold His face.

Show me Your face Lord. Being in Your presence ruins us for anything else. The lovely words we read in the Bible take on new meaning. We understand how wonderful it is to seek Your face (Mat 6:33).

Lord I want to know You. I want You to know me. When I stand before You on that final day I want to look into Your face and see Your look of loving recognition and hear those words “well done, good and faithful servant”. Consume my heart Lord. Consume all of me. Know me and change me to become all that you desire. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven! I open the door Lord, come and dine with me.
